The combination of durable metal railing panel and wood construction provides security without keeping “the nature” out. These panels can serve as a “window” to the outside. These fence panels are perfect for use on balconies, decks, patios, railing, fencing, arbors, trellis, porches, and garden application because the 4 in. x 4 in. mesh pattern allows for great visibility while being extremely durable.
In this design, the durable mesh fence panels are “wedged” and secured with Black Double Point Staples in between 2×4’s. This makes the panels ridged and secure.

It is important to consider a few important things before starting a DIY fence.

- Determine fence gate location and all access points.
- When building with the fence panels, you will need to calculate the total length of each side of your property and calculate the total panel length needed. You may need to install a partial panel to make everything fit. (Good thing is that these panels are easily customizable, and the metal can be cut with small bolt cutters or a cutting wheel).
- Call the utility company before construction to ensure your fence posts will not hit any utility lines.

- Anti-Sag Gate Kit
- Two heavy duty hinges and hinge screws.
- One gate latch and lock system with screws.
Step 1 (DIY fence gate frame assembly)
First, take four 36 inch 2×4 lumber pieces and arrange them as shown below. Predrill (to prevent wood splitting), and add 3.5 inch screws and glue to all areas that will be joined together.
Step 2 (Adding the wild hog black metal railing panel to gate frame)
Next, add a 36 inch x 36 inch metal railing panel to the frame of the gate.
Cut a stock 72in x 36in panel with blot cutters, a grinder, or a metal saw and sand down the edges.
Next, add the 36in x 36 in panel to the frame.
Secure the panels with double point staples by hammering them into place until flush.
I recommend placing the staples in such a way that will prevent the metal railing panel from sliding around.
Step 3 (DIY fence gate frame construction final touches)
Next, add the remaining lumber pieces to lock in the metal panel.
First, add two 36-inch 2×4 lumber pieces directly on top of the metal railing as shown below. Predrill, and add screws to secure the metal panel into place.
Next, add one 39 inch 2×4 lumber piece to “cap” off the gate. Predrill, and add screws to secure the metal panel into place.
Next, add four 29 inch 2×2 lumber pieces as shown below. Secure these with 2.5 inch screws to prevent them from showing through. As before, predrill, add glue, and add screws.
Step 4 (Adding anti-sag gate gear)
Next, add the gear to prevent the gate from sagging in the future. There are many kits available online that can be used for this step. The installation concept is similar for most of them.
Attach a metal bracket to the upper corner of the gate (on the hinge side).
Mount another bracket diagonally at the lower corner of the gate on the latch side.
Attach cables to each corner bracket and then to the two ends of a turnbuckle.
Step 5 (Adding gate hinges and gate latch and gate installation)
Next, add the hinges and gate lock gear.
Use the “flat” side for the hinges (the part where the 2x4s are flush).
Install the gate in the fence in such a way where you will have at least a 3/16 inch gap. This is to prevent the gate from being locked in. If you install the fence post too close, then you can shave down the side of the gate that makes contact with the post to an acceptable thickness.
You are ready to paint or stain the gate!
